China state majority firm, MMG Khoemacau Copper Mine has been hit by explosive allegations of racism, modern slavery and systematic discrimination against Batswana workers.
This follows explosive allegations by the Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) that the company has subjected local employees to “slavery-like” working conditions and racial discrimination. In response, MMG Khoemacau issued a strongly worded internal memo dated October 10, 2025, titled “False Allegations Against the Company.” The internal memo addressed to employees and seen by Sunday Standard dismissed the union’s claims as “misleading, discriminatory and false.”.
