Ramaotwana accused of falsifying database to sneak in non-BNF candidate

The Deputy Secretary of the Botswana National Front, Nelson Ramaotwana, is at the centre of an electoral fraud allegation. The fraud is alleged by Timothy Mmopi, a long-time activist of and former officeholder in the party who is a member of the Mahalapye East constituency.

In terms of the Umbrella for Democratic Change’s constituency-sharing arrangement, the BNF has been allocated Mahalapye East. However, there is a dispute over whether the candidate that the party intends to field on behalf of the UDC, Augustine Nyatanga, qualified to contest in the BNF primary elections. By his account, he has been a BNF member for 10 years but Mmopi says that is not true.
