Sale of Eternal Pink highlights Botswana’s diamond woes

Batswana may be forgiven for feeling cheated after a very rare diamond the country sold to De Beers for cheap was auctioned in New York last week for about P300 more than the Botswana selling price – the only consolation however, is that it could have been worse.

De Beers on the other hand was among the biggest winners from the sale of the stone it initially wanted to buy from Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) for a bargain basement price of less than US$ 8 million.
