Three weeks ago, one of the deputies at the Mochudi kgotla, Mpho Pone pleaded with churches to pray for reconciliation among the royal community, acknowledging that the royal uncles were riddled with factionalism. He was speaking to different church denominations who had gathered at the kgotla for the national month of prayers.
I did not attend the event but a video recording has been made available to me. In the video, Mpho Pone can be heard saying that he had been assigned by Deputy Kgosi Sekai Linchwe to welcome the congregations at the kgotla. He can be heard appealing to churches to pray for unity among the royals and for stability at the kgotla. It is not clear as to whether that had been dictated to him by his boss or it came out from his independent mind. Nevertheless the sentiments he expressed were similar to the one echoed by Sekai almost twelve months ago at a funeral in Mochudi when he blamed “Letimoni” for having caused havoc within the “ba bogosi” community.
