Kutlwano Police in Francistown are investigating a robbery incident in which Shell Filling Station near BMC circle was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money at gun-point last week.
In an interview with the The Telegraph, Kutlwano Police Station Commander, Mothibi Motsholathebe confirmed that the robbery was reported at his station last Wednesday night.
“The report we received from the employees at the filling station is that two men came into the filling station at around 10:15pm on Wednesday last week and one of the men pointed a pistol at the employees. The culprits then took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, ordered one of the customers at gunpoint to drive them away in his vehicle. The culprits then dumped the driver and his vehicle at Matsiloje village. The driver then handed himself to the police during the same night,” he said.
Mothibi said the employees of Shell Filling Station and the driver of the getaway vehicle were all not injured. He said that police investigations are still on-going.
Asked on the rate of robberies in his policing area Mothibi said that they hardly record such cases.
“We hardly record robberies in our policing area. The only criminal activities that are giving us a headache are minor cases of assaults and stealing of cell phones which is currently on the rise. House breakings have since gone down mainly due to our cordial working relationship with the community. We have also strengthened our patrols,” he said.
Meanwhile, Francistown Police are also investigating another case in which a 45 year old man cold bloodedly murdered his 35 year old lover by stabbing her with a sharp instrument in Donga location last week and later committed suicide by hanging himself.
The Station Commander of Francistown Police Station, Superintendent Mojaboswa Mathitha confirmed to The Telegraph in an interview that after stabbing the deceased, the suspect fled and was later found hanging under a tree by passer-by at Francistown Golf Club.
“The postmortem report is complete and the bodies of the deceased have since been handed to the relatives for burial. The man hails from Chadibe village and the woman is from Lecheng village in the Tswapong Sub District,” he said.
He concluded that police investigations are still on-going.
