The hunt for a Chief Executive Officer at Standard Chartered Bank of Botswana is over.
The bank has appointed Moatlhodi Lekaukau to take over from Michael Wiegand who has been acting since the end of last year.
Lekaukau will join the bank in February next year according to a statement issued by the bank.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Moatlhodi as CEO for Botswana . His extensive experience will help Standard Chartered further deepen relationships with our customers and clients. With over 114 years’ experience in Botswana , we are already well positioned but Moatlhodi is an outstanding choice to take our business to new heights,” said Diana Layfield, Regional Chief Executive Officer for Africa.
“It is a privilege to join Standard Chartered as CEO for Botswana. I am excited about the opportunities to develop our business in Botswana and to serve our customers, clients, staff, regulators and the community,” said the Chief Executive Officer-designate for Botswana.
Lekaukau is a qualified Chartered Accountant currently a partner at Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance in South Africa where he is Head of Mergers & Acquisitions.
Standard Bank, in efforts to portray itself as a leading banking institution, introduced a salary advance scheme for its clients this year. The bank also partnered with Orange Botswana when they launched mobile money service for the unbanked population of just under 40 percent but who own mobile phones.
