The Botswana Tertiary Students Sports Association (BOTESSA) has confirmed that it will participate at the 17th Confederation of Universities and Colleges of Sports Association (CUCSA) Zone VI games, slated for Lusaka.
The University of Zambia will play host to the games CUCSA 17th edition is from August 16 to 23.
BOTESSA public relations officer Isaacs confirmed that “the participation is of the following sports codes: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Football, Netball, Rugby, Table Tennis, and Volleyball.”
She added that this year BOTESSA intends to send about 200 athletes. “The send off is scheduled for August 13 at 1600 hours at a venue yet to be announced in due course.”
Last year, the Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) as an affiliate to the BOTESSA participated in the annual BOTESSA games which were held on April 12. BAC students participated exceptionally well in various sporting activities such as netball, volleyball, soccer and Athletics which are both track and field events respectively.
BOTESSA is the umbrella body for all sports codes for tertiary institutions of Botswana. The championship comprised of three brackets (A, B and C) battling it out to establish a team to represent Botswana. BAC sent a 4 x 100m females relay team along with a female athlete who participated in a shot put challenge.
Another BAC team of four ladies proudly scooped second place in the 100m relay race. These BOTESSA championships were held as a preliminary tournament which served as a qualifier for the Regional’s of the Confederation of Universities and Colleges of Southern Africa (CUCSA).
As a result BAC will represent not only the College but fly the Botswana flag at these championships following their exceptional performance at both the track events and volleyball matches.
BOTESSA is an organisation that was formed to provide organised sporting links amongst Tertiary Institutions in Botswana.
