Teachers’ Unions doubt government’s commitment to return school sport

The two main teachers’ unions, Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) and Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) have cast doubt on the commitment of the government to resume school sport.

BOSETU secretary general, Tobokani Rari says “Sport plays a pivotal role in instilling discipline in students. Absence of school sports creates a vacuum in students’ engagement and as such leaving them susceptible and vulnerable to different forms of indiscipline.”

Rari says as BOSETU, they are ‘utterly disappointed by the lack of seriousness on the part of government to see school sports resuming.’ “Our view is that the technocrats in the Ministry of Sports especially the Permanent Secretary do not want to candidly engage the teacher trade unions on the matter.”
