Local racing sensation Mogrey Mabille of Team Scoot has promised his fans a podium finish at this year’s Toyota 1000 Desert Race next weekend. Botswana’s racing stalwart, Mabille, will be competing in the special cars division (class A) in the porter sand master and he will once again be partnered by Zelda Niemandt as his co-driver/navigator. It will be their first outing of the season. In last year’s desert race, the duo suffered a breakdown and they were forced to retire early on the last day of the race.
In 2012 they were ranked 12th place over all. Experience will be a key determining factor in this year’s race, which will feature a completely new route. Mabille started his professional racing career in 2010. He is familiar with the local terrain because he trains on it. This should work to his advantage as most of the other racers in his category will be venturing into unchartered waters.
Mabille’s competitors include Keith du Toit, who was on the podium last year, and Xander Mare of White Star Racing BAT. The three racers are expected to thrill spectators as they compete for a podium finish. Mabille promised his fans that he will put up a good showing, especially after he recently scooped a sponsorship deal with Botswana Investment Trade Centre (BITC).
“The standard of our preparations this year was very high. I promise that we will deliver our very best because our training was intense,” he said.
