The league championship has been decided and Mochudi Centre Chiefs are the champs with still three matches to go.
The fierce battle is now for the leading goalscorer award which is now being fought for by Mochudi Centre Chiefs players who had a successful season. Only a goal separates the duo of Joel Mogorosi and Kekaetswe ‘Mara’ Moloi with the former leading by 26 goals.
Both players are currently on fire and it will be really interesting to see who will come out tops at the end of the season. The duo was even on target over the weekend when their team finally won the league championship after defeating Police XI 3-1 at Molepolole Sports Complex on Sunday.
Trailing behind them by as much as ten goals are their nearest rivals and it will be difficult to catch them since only three matches remain to be played.
Mogorosi once held a clear lead with ten goals ahead of Moloi but the three months wrist injury cost him dearly. He was injured during the preparation by the senior national team just before the start of Africa Cup of Nations early this year.
Moloi took advantage of that and played a catch-up game as he scored in almost every match.
Other strikers who started the season well have withered along the way and they include the likes of Master Masitara. If Mogorosi finishes as the leading goal scorer it would be a good send off for him because he will be joining Zimbabwean side, F.C. Platinum, at the end of the season.
Even for Moloi, it would be a great achievement because he has for some time been an underrated player. He has since been called to the senior national team and finishing at the top might boost his confidence.
