Last week, Enoch Godongwana, the South African Finance Minister, was forced to postpone the country’s Budget Policy statement after the parties that constitute the Government of National Unity decided not to support his proposal to hike Value Added Tax (VAT) by 2%. With the proposed increase, South Africa’s VAT would rise to 17 %. He is now expected to present the budget to Parliament on March 12.
