The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has noted reports in the media linking President Duma Boko with the following;
1.being driven to Mosu by Mr Mabaila and receiving P 800 000 from the former President, Ian Khama
2, that the UDC has been promised a P30million boost to its coffers on the condition that it allows Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) to remain as its member. It is further reported that the President was to meet the leader of the Democratic Alliane (DA) and a leader of the Africa Liberal Network (ALN) at Oliver Tambo International Airport on his way from Geneva.
The President of the UDC has indicated that the allegations that he was driven to Mosu and that he has received P 800 000 from former President Khama are devoid of any truth.
It is important to note that the UDC has no formal relationship with the DA. Though the DA subscribes to liberalism while we are Social Democrats, what links us with them is our partner in the alliance, the BMD. It therefore is natural that where a request for a meeting from the BMD associates is made, out of respect and courtersy, we can not shun it. However, the President has not met anyone from either the DA nor the ALN, though such a request has been made.
The UDC is an idependent organisation that will never sell its soul. It is the set of principles that we believe in that have and will fuel and see us through in the struggle against the BDP. We are fortified by the support and encouragement that we continue to get from our members and all Batswana who want genuine change and true independence.
We would not be moved by the slurring of mud at the organisation and its leadership. Such efforts will remain inconseqential.We are aware that there are some individuals who have now turned themselves into the greasing boys and girls of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) under President Masisi who are used as pocket knives against the UDC. We urge our members and the nation to be vigilant.
