Some prominent conservationists and United Kingdom (U.K) members of parliament have expressed discontent with the on-air parliamentary debate on trophy hunting that took place on Friday, March 22. The debate focused on a fresh attempt by Labour member of parliament (MP) for Warley, John Spellar, to introduce the second private member’s bill in less than one and half years to legislate for a historic ban on trophy hunting imports into this country. The Trophy Hunting Bill has passed its Second Reading without any votes against.
Sir Bill Wiggin, the Conservative MP for North Herefordshire, said the data is overwhelming, indicating that responsibly managed hunting licenses encourage locals to safeguard rare species and maintain habitats.
