Two people are reported to have died after two cars, a Toyota Corolla and Toyota Hilux collided near Sitatunga, just a few kilometres from Maun along the Maun-Ghanzi road. The Toyota Hilux had two people, the driver and his passenger and was laden with ten sheep.
Officer Commanding Number 5 district Superintendent Chabaesele Kesupetswe said soon after the accident, the Hilux driver fled the scene and was found hanging from a tree in the nearby bushes the same day. He added that although they haven’t established why the driver took his life, they suspect he might have panicked, following the accident.
He said: “Two sheep from his car also died at the scene while four others disappeared into the bushes, and were never seen since then. As if that’s not enough, the passenger in the Toyota Corolla, who was very critical at the time, was also confirmed dead by doctors at Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital”.
Kesupetswe said drivers should always express caution whenever driving and ensure they communicate with other motorists while on the road. He said the loss of life by a road accident is very traumatic, which is why people should always be extra vigilant and avoid unnecessary road rage. Investigations on the matter are still ongoing.
