U.S State Dept. downgrades Botswana over human trafficking concerns

Botswana has been downgraded from Tier 1 to Tier 2  by the U.S State Department’s annual report on people trafficking concerns on “increasing Batswana migrant workers’ vulnerability to trafficking.” 

The report which was released recently also appears to confirm local media reports that “some female Botswana Defence Force (BDF) soldiers deployed for the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) operations have fallen into a dangerous cycle of prostitution to supplement their income.”
