The government’s ambitious pledge to create half a million jobs by 2029 has taken a major setback after fresh data revealed that nearly 500 jobs have been lost since the change of government in November 2024.
Responding to a parliamentary question from Bobirwa MP Taolo Lucas, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Pius Mokgware told Parliament that 487 jobs were lost between November 2024 and November 2025, based on retrenchment notifications submitted to the ministry.
