Ugandan comedy sensation set to thrill

For the first time ever Botswana will on the 28th and 29th of November bring Ugandan female comedy sensation Anne Kansiime. These two days are bound to go down as some of the funniest ever in the country. The undisputed and indeed very talentedAfrican Queen of comedy will be performing on 2 special nights alongside some local talents. Her first performance will be on the 28th November at the New Molapo Piazza while the second one will be held on the 29th November at Thapong Visual arts centre.

Kansiime is a YouTube sensationand boasts over 500,000 Facebook likes. She is one of the most celebrated Ugandan actors and comedians.

She began her career performing standup comedy in Kampala in 2007 while studyingat Makerere University. In addition to her acting work, Kansiime has continued to work as a standup comedian.

She is a talented award winning comedian, Actress and writer in fun factory. Dubbed “Africa’s Queen of Comedy”, Anne is a multi-award winner and hosts the ‘Don’t Mess with Kansiime’ television show on Citizen TV in Kenya .She has many awards under her belt. Some of the awards includeAIRTEL Women of Substance Awards 2014, BEFFTA 2013 (Best Comedian) winner, Lagos International Festival 2013 (Best Actress) winner, Social Media Awards (Favourite Celebrity) winner and African Social Awards Malaysia (ASAM) ÔÇô 2013.

She is a graduate of Social Sciences from Makerere University. Even amongst various acting commitments, Kansiime has continued performing and touring as a standup comedian. Kansiime’s comedy style tends to focus on aspects of her personal life. “I like talking about things that are going on in life because that’s always going to be different and original,” she says. She is married.

Kansiime used the social media to share her jokes and pranks and made a rapid rise to fame in Africa and the rest of the world.

Soul food comedy competition has run twice this year and the two local champions from each season will be performing alongside the Ugandan star. The supporting acts include Mandisa Mabuthoe, Aether, Debbie with a T, Rae Rylic, Sethunya, Bambino, Charles and Tulani Tau.

Soul food comedy is a rapidly growing entertainment platform in Botswana and has taken Gaborone by storm. With eight shows already successfully staged in 2014, the 9th and final show will be a wrap up of the year featuring the African YouTube sensation. Selby ‘Tswenglish’ Muir who has recently been hosting a series of roasts says this will be the biggest comedy show of the year. “We wanted to bring someone different instead of bringing yet another South African.” Muir added that they recently discovered Kansiime on Facebook. “After watching her funny videos on YouTube, we decided to invite her over to Botswana.

Molapo piazza is a new venue. As part of its launch this November the place will hostSouth African acts such as HHP, Khuli Chana, Anne Kansiime and Trevor Noah over a period of eight days. Everyone should get a ticket to experience the venue for the first time. Tickets are available at ShopRite/computicket nationwide, hair garage station, and Liquorama.
