But a new United Nations warning raises difficult questions about what happens when the cost of healthy food rises faster than household incomes and government’s ability to absorb the shock weakens.
The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2026 (SOFI 2026) report produced by five UN agencies warns that the global food challenge is increasingly shifting from food availability to food affordability. The report focuses on the rising cost of healthy diets and the structural barriers preventing millions of people from accessing nutritious food.
