Upgrading of council districts kicks off

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is expected to hold consultative kgotla meetings on the restructuring of Councils.

According to a statement by the Ministry’s spokesperson Masego Ramakgathi, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Kgotla Autlwetse will embark on a series of consultative kgotla meetings across the country on the Restructuring of Councils on October 17-27, 2022.

Ramakgathi said the meetings which will be attended by Morafe and District leadership comprising Dikgosi, Members of Parliament, Councillors, District Commissioners, Land Board Members, Village Development Committee members, Tribal Administrators and other government officials are scheduled to be held in Tutume, Tonota, Boteti, Mahalapye, Hukuntsi, Tsabong, Letlhakeng, Mathangwane, Takatokwane, Mahalapye and Hukuntsi.

Ramakgathi also revealed that the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Setlhabelo Modukanele will embark on a series of consultative kgotla meetings across the country on the same rstructuring of Councils on October 19-26, 2022.

“The meetings, which will be attended by Morafe and District leadership comprising Dikgosi, Members of Parliament, Councillors, District Commissioners, Land Board Members, Village Development Committee members, Tribal Administrators and other government officials,” he said.

Ramakgathi said the meetings will be held in the following villages Maun, Gumare, Goodhope and Mogoditshane.  Some districts across the country have been approved for upgrading under phase 1 are as follows Goodhope, Molepolole, Mogoditshane, Letlhakeng, Mahalapye, Tutume, Boteti, Maun, Okavango, Tsabong and Hukuntsi.
