The World Bank has labeled Botswana as a high-risk country for women due to its ongoing failure to address gender-based violence.
Having made insignificant strides toward equal treatment of women under the law, the World Bank had no choice but to deem the country as one of those places that are not safe for women in its latest edition of the Women, Business and Law 2024 report.
These findings and the report highlighted Botswana as an increasingly unsafe place for women. Therefore, the international organization has urged Botswana to implement comprehensive mechanisms to address violence against women, including specialized procedures for handling sexual harassment cases.
