Irrespective of what line of business you are in, there is a certain way of doing certain things in that line of business that leads to success in that line of business. That is why in most businesses today there is induction training,which is a way of introducing novices to our way of doing business.
If you join a new company they will usually train you on their way of doing business so that you can become successful easily.
So what does this certain way of doing business have to do with you as an independent success conscious individual? The answer is simply, everything. It is important for you to note that there are people that are succeeding right where you are, in the very things in which you want to succeed. Therefore what you need to do is to study their methods and a certain way in which they do certain things. You have to keep your eyes open.
Life does not play favorites, it doesn’t care who succeeds or fails, it only cares who does a certain way in accordance with its laws. Life has universal laws that apply to us all, but most people don’t bother to find out what these laws are and how they can apply them to their best possible advantage. They are ignorant so to speak, and in their ignorance they put their successes and failures down to luck.
Yes luck has its hand on it, but let us remember as Gary Player put it, “the harder I work the luckier I get.” Therefore luck according to him and according to most high achievers is something that can actually be manufactured through your own hard work.
So what is this certain way of doing certain things in your industry or chosen line of business? That is not up to me to answer, it is a question that you should explore. Have you studied the leaders in your industry? Have you identified the common denominators amongst those that are at the top of your profession or industry? Have you invited anyone of them out for lunch? If not, why not? Just so that you can ask them questions about how they got to be where they are today, at a place you want to be at?
Are you like most people wasting time talking to people who are not at the top and taking their advice? The thing about success is that it leaves clues, therefore if you take it upon yourself to become a success detective sooner or later you will find clues that if you follow will lead to the kind of results that you want to create. Most people are too lazy, they want to be spoon fed and told what to do instead of researching and experimenting with their findings.
Life is fundamentally about doing. It is about tweaking things every now and then to find out what works best for you. It’s about finding out what has worked for others and how you can make it work for you.
It is not automatic that what has worked for others will work for you.
You have to figure it out for yourself, you have to adapt the so called generic success formula to yourself so that you achieve your objectives within the time frame that you had set for yourself.
It takes conscious effort, curious imagination and self discipline to constantly be on the look out for what works. It calls for trial and error and experimentation, a process that most people are not prepared to endure. It calls for a shift in attitude in the way in which you do things and in the way in which you look at life.
This is why a majority of people don’t succeed in their chosen field, why? Not because they don’t have what it takes to succeed but because even though they may know from word of mouth what it takes to succeed they are rarely prepared to pay the price it takes to succeed in the way of taking action. It used to be that there was a certain group of people who knew what it took to succeed and their secret methods were well guarded, but today we have the internet and “how to” success books in almost every area of human enterprise. We can all research ways of doing certain things a certain way if we want. But even then of those who research this certain way it is very few who move beyond reading to the implementation phase.
You should be different, not only should you search for a certain way of doing certain things in your industry but you should test out and personalize this certain way of doing things for yourself. That is the only thing that will move you head and shoulder above the wannabes in your industry.
