A 21-year-old man was this Friday brought before the Urban Customary Court Deputy President, Kgosi Motse Sebele, charged with promising to assault a University of Botswana student.
Gofaone Biki Patle, who is unemployed and from Mokgosi Ward in Kanye, pleaded guilty to the charges of assault common.
Constable Bakae of Urban Police Station told the court that on the November 14, 2006 at News Stance in Gaborone, the complainant saw Patle collecting metal scrapes and asked him what he was doing with the metal.
He said Patle lost his temper and promised to assault the complainant and the complainant reported the case to the Urban Police who charged him with assault.
Bakae said the Patle felt that he was being abused by the UB student.
Kgosi Sebele told the court that Patle pleaded guilty to the charges but the police did not tell the court if Patle and the student were friends.
Sebele said there was lack of evidence and blamed the police for not doing their job properly. He told the court that the police were too quick to take people to court before finishing their investigations.
He warned and cautioned Patle before discharging him.
