“what are your goals?
“What are you going to achieve in the next twenty years?”
“What is the quality of your life?”
“What is your worth?”
If only we could approach life with the same passion, enthusiasm, excitement and desire as the Football World Cup, we could make tremendous impact and leave a lasting memory. You shouldn’t go into life’s competition as the underdog. All that you want is a win, nothing less than a win. That should be your attitude and your goal.
You just have to score sizzling, spectacular and dramatic life goals. At times, you have to bang in the goals. If you miss goals, you go back to the drawing table to prepare yourself for the next game. That is resilience. Never give up.
That is how you should play the game of life. You should not be a spectator, sitting on the touch line, applauding, screaming, yelling and wearing colours. Do not act like a particle joining other particles to create a human wave on the grand stand. You should be the Zidane, the Ronaldo and Beckham of life and score goals.
You just have to score sizzling, spectacular and dramatic life goals.
Many people go through life without a clue who they are, what they want to do and what they want to have. They cannot answer questions related to being, doing and having. They think that they are their positions, cars or houses. Without goals you are at the mercy of the current of life. Do not drift, float and end up somewhere or nowhere. Does that not ring a bell?
Deadwood is carried in any direction.
Without goals you are at the mercy of the current of life.
Scoring goals is achieving them. What does it take to realize your goals? Like parrots we are all able to say goals should be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, and Realistic, with a Timeframe. This is all theoretical until it is put into practice. We like paying lip service. The real test of progressive movement is when the tire meets the tar.
Closely examine all the areas of your life and see what you have achieved.
What are these six areas? The Greeks concentrated on the body, mind and soul. That was the whole essence of life and sport. Unfortunately, many people have contaminated sport and think that it is for money, fame, power and sex. So, sport becomes politics and politics becomes sport. This is a serious deviation, a serious departure from what the Greeks conceptualized and infused into the Olympic spirit. Similarly, the whole of life has been adulterated.
There has been a development and refinement of the Greek’s three goals of life and sport: Three more have been added. These are finance, family and society. What are your SMART goals in the six areas of your life covering, body, mind, soul, finance, family and society?
Finance is related to your career or entrepreneurship. I have worked for various institutions, including government, non-governmental and the private sector. My financial and career goals were manifested, developed and sustained in these different organizations. Now, I am pursuing the route of empowering others as a personal effectiveness speaker, writer and coach.
That is my new career.
Do you have a family? I am not only asking about your mother and father. Have you established a family? I discovered a link between family interests and career pursuits. They can be complementary or contradictory. It all depends on you. I was able to venture into different careers as a result of the agreement I had made with my wife. Any way even if we had not agreed, I was still going to venture. You should not spare any effort or resources to achieve your goals. That is, the do or die, entrepreneurial spirit you should have.
You should not spare any effort or resources to achieve your goals.
What is your social involvement? You should be involved with the society.
You are going to acquire a lot of skills, competencies and knowledge. Your emotional and spiritual intelligence will be increased. People’s skills can only be gained by engaging with people and not with numbers, machines, concrete, steel, glass or animals. I was not satisfied with just being a mathematician.
What goals do you have for your body? How is your state of health? Do you exercise and eat healthy food? Or are you a fast, junk food specialist with your body showing the evidence? You might give an excuse that you do not have time to exercise because of your job.
What goals do you have for your body?
It is exciting, rewarding and fulfilling to live a life where you are accomplishing your goals. They should be your goals and not someone else’s. Do something about your goals, starting at this very moment, right now. Anything that you can do, to get your goals, is commendable. The only thing you should not do is to commit fouls by rough-tackling others and faking. You will be red-carded.
It is exciting, rewarding and fulfilling to live a life where you are accomplishing your goals.
Excuses and goal achievement are incompatible. In the mathematical language we say there is an inverse relationship between goals and excuses.
To get your goals you need to do away with excuses. Once you have decided what you want to do, there should be immediate, committed and passionate action. Then you should score and score again.
Excuses and goal achievement are incompatible. If you pay too much attention to what others are saying you may fail to achieve your goals. People were saying, Ronaldo is too fat, that he is sluggish and has lost his spark. This veteran, master and star still scored his goals.
If you pay too much attention to what others are saying you may fail to achieve your goals. No amount of discouragement should let you lose focus. You should not abandon the field of play and the joy of achieving your goals. The people at the grand stand of your life can only watch, comment, paint their faces and go through an emotional roller coaster. They should not stop you from getting your goals. The only person who can stop you getting your own goals is you.
You should not abandon the field of play and the joy of achieving your goals.
