You would be forgiven for thinking that teenagers are the most depressed, anxious, and loneliest demographic group in Botswana. Mood disorders, self-harm, and suicide have become more common among adolescents in recent years; article after article reports that social media is toxic for teen girls especially, eroding their self-esteem and leaving them disconnected.
Or the grey generation, often depicted in popular culture and news commentary as isolated and unhappy, their health declining and their friends dropping away.
That prize however goes to young adults. More than half of young adults are worried about money, feel that the pressure to achieve hurts their mental health, and believe that their lives lack meaning or purpose.
