Organisers of the Jwaneng Half Marathon, Sports Entertainment, have confirmed that there will be a race today (Sunday) which will start and finish at entrance 1 at Airport Junction. The race will consist of a 10km run and will start at 6:30am and the 5km Fun Run, which will commence at 7:30am. The race is expected to draw runners from Gaborone and surrounding areas.
In line with the organisers’ aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle through sport, the run will be promoting “Movember” which is Men’s Health Month by having different associations such as the Cancer Association and the Department of Safe Male Circumcision. The Cancer Association of Botswana will be having a “Shaverthon” at the race where they will be shaving hair in order to raise awareness as well as funds for Cancer patients across the country.
Nobantu Sebonego, the managing director of Sports Entertainment who is also the main organiser of the race said they are excited to be hosting the Airport Junction 10km & 5km Run at Airport Junction. “The aim of this race is to raise awareness on men’s health issues and generally about good health.” She further noted that they will be having different representatives from the Ministry of health as well as volunteers from the Cancers Association of Botswana who will help them to achieve this mandate. “The Cancer Association will be having a shaverthon, where people will be shaving their hair to raise cancer awareness as well as giving people an opportunity dye their hair for charity purposes.
Sebonego concluded by adding that the first 600 people will receive a t-shirt each and a medal at the end of the race.
