Another military man appointed Senior Private Secretary to the President

President Ian Khama has appointed Brigadier George Tlhalerwa as Senior Private Secretary to the President.

Brigadier Tlhalerwa replaces Colonel Duke Masilo who has been redeployed to the position of Deputy Head, Poverty Eradication Unit.

A close associate of President Khama, Brigadier Tlhalerwa has worked for the Botswana Defence Force, including serving as Commander Defence logistics command.

Tlhalerwa’s appointment seals President Khama’s unwavering faith in his colleagues from his days as a soldier.

All the three private secretaries Khama has had so far since joining politics are the president’s colleagues from his military days.

The first appointment was Isaac Kgosi who was Khama’s senior private secretary for the ten years that Khama was Vice President.

Kgosi was later promoted to become Director General of the DIS (Directorate of Inteligence Services).

It is not yet clear whether or not Masilo’s deployment amounts to a promotion.
Tlhalerwa takes the position with immediate effect.
