Auditions for sixth edition of Big Brother Africa in full swing

New faces and new perspective emerged at the search for Big Brother Africa (BBA) 6th edition and the search for Botswana housemate is on, with open entry auditions that took place in Gaborone last week.

Multichoice Public Relations Manager, Tshepo Maphanyane, said this year’s reception has been very positive with people from all sorts of sectors, including students, artists, bankers, fashion designers and business professionals taking an interest.

“It is a game of surprises and an individual should convince judges as it is a reality show and our focus is on creating something new and innovative,” said Maphanyane. She revealed that there are different phases that candidates will go through, depending on their performance.

Maphanyane stated that a lot of people responded online while others filled and submitted the hard copy forms.

She added that preference for auditions will be given to the pre-selected participants because of early submission of forms. Maphanyane said this year there is a sign of an increase in the number of applications with mostly over 20s and over 30s coming forward.

According to Maphanyane, Endemol South Africa, as the Producer of the reality television show, in conjunction with M-Net and Multichoice, will begin the process of selection, evaluating entries and short listing possible housemates before the audition process proceeds further.

“The fact that a lot of people have shown interest in BBA shows that people continue to enjoy the great success of the highly popular TV show,” said Maphanyane.

She pointed out that every year there is a different theme.

“BBA is diverse as you have experienced from BBA All Stars and BBA Revolution in the past years.”

The biggest reality show on the continent, with its impressive US $200 000 cash prize, is in the 14 participating countries.

Housemates are expected from Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Shortlisted candidate by the producers will undergo psychological and medical screening. Maphanyane stated that BBA 6 will go live on air on May 1st this year and she said the countries have put comments on what to see on the show for the 91-day duration of the series. She stated that a lot of entertainment is also expected on the show.
