Barclays Bank of Botswana, in partnership with Morwa Home Based Care, donated a four roomed house to the Maleswane family in Morwa Village on March 3, 2007.
Officiating at the handing over ceremony, Barclays Bank of Botswana Acting Retail Director, Sabrina Mahlalela, stated that Barclays Bank contributed P30 000 to the building of the house and also donated bedding, food and clothing.
Mahlalela emphasized that, annually, the Bank contributes one percent of its profit before tax towards social responsibility initiatives. In 2004, Mahlalela said Barclays Bank of Botswana invested over P2.8 million for community enhancement projects throughout Botswana.
?For many years, at Barclays we have provided life changing assistance to the underprivileged in Botswana and continue to assist society through defined corporate responsibility initiatives,? added Mahlalela.
Accepting the donations, Moloko Moleshwane, a form five pupil at Molefhi Senior Secondary School, thanked Barclays Bank for providing a home that will bring warmth and happiness to his family. He said the donation is a life changing experience that would give his family a sense and feeling of security.
?I thank Barclays Bank for their kind gesture. I also thank Mr. Tswelelo who has been taking care of us. My heartfelt gratitude also goes to the chief, the headman, area Councilor, Social Welfare Office, Mochudi Magistrate Court, Morwa Home Based Care and members of the public who have been assisting us for a long time now,? said Moleshwane.
