Batswana urged to venture into manufacturing sector

The Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) has urged Batswana to venture into the manufacturing sector as a way of creating employment hence reducing the current unemployment rate in the country.

Vincent Mokalake, from LEA’s Capacity and Development Division, said that, to reduce unemployment in this country, Batswana must diversify and be innovative. He said there are a lot of natural resources in Botswana that can be exploited and mobilized to come up with very good products for the market.

In spite of good growth recorded in Botswana, the country still suffers high unemployment rate with the most affected being the youth and women.
Another LEA representative, who refused to be named, said that though they appreciate other sectors of the economy, they just want people to diversify.

“We want people to know that there is a lot that they can do in the manufacturing sector because, as it is right now, a lot of goods we use are manufactured outside. But, for example, we can manufacture glass for ourselves in Botswana,” she said.

She further said that a lot of Batswana seem to dwell much into agriculture and forget about other sectors.
“Though agriculture based, it’s time people looked for opportunities in other sectors,” she added.
