Botswana Defence Force is a military organization that was born in haste and with much labour pains. It was in April 1977 that finally an act of parliament came into being for the establishment of this military outfit.
It had been a while since Philip Matante of Botswana People’s Party had on several occasions insisted on the formation of the military, but he was ignored. As early as 1974, a man going by the name Percy Turner Wild who was the Commander Alfa Coy of the Para Military Unit, had advised President Seretse Khama on the formation of the BDF.
