When teams feel mounting pressure and the results are not satisfactory to the management coaches are shown the exit door.
BDF XI, the army side are expected to do just that – fire their Zambian mentor Anderson Phiri this week according to sources.
The Zambian was given indefinite sabbatical leave last year in December during the festive break. According to sources BDF management is expected to meet this week to finalize the decision of parting ways with Phiri. “The decision to fire the coach will be finalized during the week and it is unlikely that we will keep him” said the source. During Phiri’s absence Matebele is under the guidance of Louis Setshwane and Letang Kgwengwenyane.
Phiri was recruited to BDFXI during the 2017/2018 season where he finished the league on position 5.
It is said the management if of the view that coach is not paling attractive football that can take to gain their glory days.
BDF was one of the powerhouses in the local elite league have won the league and domestic competitions. BDF and Extension Gunners remain the only oldest teams in the BTC premiership that have not relegated to junior leagues since joining the top league.
In an interview with the team’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Patrick Mfaladi denied the allegations that they are on the verging of dismissing coach Phiri. “We gave coach leave. It was agreed between the employer and the employee” he said. He has since arrived from leave and will be meeting with the team’s manager today (Monday).
Mfaladi could not confirm on whether the coach will be on the bench when they play Notwane on Wednesday. “I cannot commit to that because I don’t know what their meeting is going to entail and cannot predict the outcome of the meeting” Mfaladi.
Phiri’s two year contract with the team is getting to and end at the end of the current season in May.
BDF XI has 3 year plan that will see them winning the silverware. According to the sources it is said the management is happy that in their first year of their plan they managed to reach the Mascom top 8 semi finals.
BDF played six matches without the coach, the two semi final Mascom Top eight match in which they were knocked by Jwaneng Galaxy on Sunday, the latter won 3 ÔÇô 1 in aggregate to advance to the finals billed for Francistown Sports Complex on the 9th March 2019.
