The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) splinter party has submitted 10 possible names to the Registrar of Societies and are awaiting a response ÔÇô spokesperson Sidney Pilane has revealed.
Pilane was however reluctant to disclose the names that have been proposed, saying that they do not want to speculate.
He revealed that Barata-Phathi will meet during the week to discuss the new party’s constitution and pick their preferred name for the party.
“We will discuss the issue of the party name. But this will largely depend on the response that we get from the Registrar of Societies” he said.
Pilane urged all Barata-Phathi members to continue consulting with their constituents on the formation of the new party.
Barata-Phathi went for broke a few weeks ago when they made a number of demands to the BDP leadership and announced that they are leaving the party.
Barata-Phathi faction of the BDP has among its prominent members MPs Botsalo Ntuane, Wynter Mmolotsi, Guma Moyo, Mmoloki Raletobana, Tawana Moremi, Gilbert Mangole and Tshelang Masisi.
However it is not clear as to which MPs will defect to the new party upon its registration. Some members still believe that there is still room for negotiations with the BDP leadership. So far Pilane and Morwaeng have been expelled from the BDP.
Several MPs and Councillors who attended the Barata-Phathi meeting have been dragged to the BDP’s disciplinary committee by the BDP’s Secretary General Thato Kwerepe.
