BHC in Corporate Social Responsibility drive

As part of their corporate social responsibility campaign, the Botswana Housing Corporation was last week in Zwenshambe to hand over a P50 000 cheque for the renovation of the village’s Day Care Center.

The center had been closed down and the BHC donated money and is lending expertise from its skilled manpower pool.

Speaking at Zwenshambe village over the weekend, the Deputy chief executive Officer (Support Services) Ntoti Mosetlhe said that they had tasked their Francistown office to identify worthy community based initiatives to which the corporation could lend a helping hand.

”A task force was sent on a fact finding mission and it identified a number of worthy community based initiatives, including the Zwenshambe Day Care Centre,” she said.

The center had been closed down because of disrepair. This caused children from Zwenshambe and surrounding village, like Mapoka and Nlaphwane, who had previously benefited from the day care centre to relocate to the Masunga Day Care Centre. Because of the long distance it took to travel to Masunga, most children ended up dropping out from Pre School.

”Upon realizing this need by the community, the BHC undertook to pay for renovations as well as assist in form of expertise and labour through some volunteer members of staff from our various offices so that the day care centre can be fully utilized for the benefit of the children,” said Mosetlhe.

BHC has embarked on an aggressive corporate social responsibility program that has benefited a lot of community-based projects around the country. The corporation donated P80 000 to Konku Trust, an organization that builds shelters for disadvantaged Basarwa, and P30 000 to Bamalete Lutheran Hospital in their orthopedic appliances project. Recently, BHC also donated P 75 000 to the Masiela Trust Fund and blankets and bed covers to the Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre in Mochudi.

Giving a vote of thanks, the North East District Council Chairman, Kopano Maruping, thanked the BHC for their donation saying it would not only benefit the people of Zwenshambe but the North East District as a whole. He said that the NEDC assists the day care centers with annual payments of P 20 000 and with the training and remuneration of the teachers.
