BoBA adopts a Rope-A-Dope strategy as Olympic boxing faces turmoil

Last week Tuesday, International Boxing Federation (IBA)’s recognition as the international federation for Olympic boxing suffered a major knockout blow. The court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed its appeal seeking to overturn a decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to strip it of its recognition. The decision follows IBA’s 2019 suspension by IOC. 

IBA’s suspension followed a long dispute by IOC regarding financial transparency, sustainability and rigged fights during the Rio 2016 Games. The suspension was to allow AIBA to get its house in order. This, it seems, has since failed to suffice, hence leading to their expulsion by IOC.
