Despite having not solicited any sponsor for the event, the Botswana Dance Sport Association is determined to make a success of the first ever regional dance festival they are hosting in March this year.
The Vice chairperson of BODANSA, Motlogelwa Ramphokgo, told the Sunday Standard that, according to an estimated budget they made, over P300 000 is needed for the event.
“We have tried to identify sponsors but no one has committed yet; some have asked that we give them necessary documents and we have done that and we still awaiting response from them. We are, however, doing the best we can to raise funds for the event,” he said.
Ramphokgo also said that BODANSA hosted national championships dance and dinner at the Boipuso Hall this past weekend as another way of fund raising.
“This event is the first of its kind and we are the first country to host it. We are expecting 5 countries from the region and we aim to set pace and prove that we are able to meet any set standard,” he said.
Ramphokgo said that BODANSA also hopes that, through the show, Botswana in general can come to see and learn that, as BODANSA, they have something real to offer.
“The ordinary Motswana who does not know that dance exists as a sport in Botswana should be challenged to understand otherwise,” he said.
So far, the association has managed to secure the Boipuso Hall as the venue for the event and Ramphokgo revealed that everything else is going according to plan.
He appealed to prospective sponsors to avail themselves and sponsor the event accordingly to help make it a success.
The dance sport festival will be held on March 26 and 27 at the Boipuso Hall. Countries expected to grace the event include Lesotho, South Africa and Swaziland, among others.
