Fuel shortage disrupts BODANSA activities

The Botswana Dance Sport Association (BODANSA) Lobatse Inter club championships that were scheduled to be held over the past weekend were postponed due to fuel shortage at different governments’ depots.

The competition was supposed to have been held on Saturday at Peleng Community Hall in Lobatse.
The championship, which will be used as one of the qualifying competitions for national team selection for the upcoming Mozambique open in July and the Swaziland open in October, have been postponed to the 19th June 2010 and will still be held at Lobatse. BODANSA Administrative Secretary, Karabo Kemoabe, noted they BODANSA decided to postpone the competition because most of their participating schools, especially from the Northern side, were going to be unable to travel.

“Due to fuel shortages at different government depots (with fuel being reserved for essential services such as Hospitals Generators, The Forces and the Water Affairs Generators), BODANSA has decided to postpone the competition to the┬á19th June 2010. It has come to the attention of BODANSA that most of the registered schools would not be able to travel this weekend due to the above stated matter,” he said.

Kemoabe stated that though a few schools had opted to travel by private buses, the executive felt it was not in the best interest of the students hence the decision to postpone the competition.
“We would like to unreservedly apologise for the inconvenience caused. Our priority will always be our dancers,” he added.

Still at the DanceSport challenge, BODANSA will hold an Extra Ordinary General Meeting to sanction all matters that were resolved at the Annual General Meeting that was held earlier this year in March.

“Pursuant to clause┬á7.3, sub clause 7.3.4 of the new BODANSA Constitution,┬áwe hereby give notice for an EOGM to sanction or disapprove the Executive Committee resolution that the effective date for the new subscription fees for the schools be differed to the 2011/2012 fiscal year and that this meeting be held on the┬á19th June 2010 in Lobatse, Peleng Community Hall. The time for this meeting referenced above to be advised at a later date,” read a statement from BODANSA.
Not only was BODANSA affected but other sports codes, like Softball and Volleyball, were also affected.
