Boko reasserts controversial GBV statement he made in 2015

Some six years ago, then Leader of the Opposition, Duma Boko, challenged Botswana Democratic Party MPs “or anyone else for that matter” to contest his assertion that there is no such thing as “gender-based violence.” No one took up the challenge – which may have motivated Boko to repeat such assertion a fortnight ago when he addressed an orientation session for his ministers. This time there has been pushback.

The first time Boko made that statement was during a parliamentary debate that was held in August 2018.
