Botswana faces drug resistant TB crisis despite World Bank warnings

Botswana may have overlooked early warning signs that could have prevented the distribution of substandard tuberculosis (TB) medicines, according to documents reviewed by Sunday Standard.

The World Bank had initially flagged lapses in the country’s quality-control mechanisms yet these alerts seemingly went unheeded allowing substandard medicines from an Indian manufacturer to reach patients this year.
