While the latest research from the Global Passport Power Rank 2020 reveals that Covid-19 has to a large extent tipped over global mobility that has dominated the last few years, the Botswana passport has strengthened and is ranked 4th best in Africa and 42nd globally.
Botswana came tied with Honduras, Saudi Arabia and Oman on position 42.Passports of the world are sorted using a three-tier method based on total mobility score (MS), visa-free (VF) and visa on arrival (VOA) privileges. Botswana passport has a mobility score of 68 and has a world reach of 34%. With the Botswana passport, a person can enter 39 countries visa free, 29 countries with visa on arrival and 130 countries where visas are required.
For a country to have the strongest passport in the world, it has to be welcomed by other countries and the higher the mobility score, the better global mobility its passport bearer enjoys.
Seychelles has the strongest passport in Africa and is 27th in global rankings. With the Seychelles passport, a person can enter 55 countries visa free, 29 countries with visa on arrival and 114 countries where visas are required. Seychelles also has a mobility score of 84 and world reach of 42%. Mauritius is second best in Africa while South Africa is the third strongest passport in Africa.
Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Germany managed to secure a global spot thereby emerging as a strong and competitive global player with the best passport in the world. With the Germany passport, a person can enter 96 countries visa free, 35 countries with visa on arrival and 64 countries where visas are required. Germany also has a mobility score of 134 and world reach of 67%. Germany came tied with Luxembourg on position 1.The Passport Index for 2020 analysed passports of 199 countries comprised of 193 United Nations (UN) member countries and 6 territories (ROC Taiwan, Macao (SAR China), Hong Kong (SAR China), Kosovo, Palestinian Territory and the Vatican).
