Botswana is seeking a P413 million (USD 31.52 million) loan from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to finance a large-scale livestock commercialisation project aimed at improving rural incomes, climate resilience and productivity in the small livestock sector. This is according to documents released ahead of IFAD’s 146th Executive Board Session scheduled for 9–10 December 2025 in Rome.
The proposed financing agreement titled Republic of Botswana: Botswana Livestock Commercialization Project (BoLCoP) was finalised on 19 November 2025 and outlines an ambitious nationwide programme targeting 50,000 households, representing an estimated 200,000 people. The project will be implemented across 20 districts, organised under four operational clusters.
