Botswana to participate in 4 nations cup

Botswana chess players will participate in a Zone 4.5 online 4 nations cup tournament. According to the Botswana Chess Association (BCF) secretary general Mokwaledi Tingwane, the tournament is scheduled for the 15th and 17th of October 2021.

He said the BCF has already made a request to the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) to give them a go ahead to participate in the tournament and they are still waiting for response.

“We have sent a request to BNSC for permission to participate as well as funding purposes in the tournament,” Tingwane explained.

The 4 nations are from the Zone 4.5 online team championship which was played last year, and the countries are Angola, Botswana, South Africa and Zambia.

“The very same team that participated last year, and it is not yet assembled, we can only inform the players after permission has been granted,” added Tingwane.

Furthermore, the BCF Secretary General noted that the team had a base, they were on camp at Ave Maria Hotel of which they also played at, as it is an online tournament.

“We qualified through our Bronze position, last year ten countries participated, Zone 4.5 is made up of 10 countries,” Tingwane opined.

Moreover, Tingwane added that they have sent a request this week and are hoping for a response this coming week.

Tingwane added that despite an unprepared team they are hoping to do well in this coming championship.
