Popular South African drama show, Muvhango, has confirmed through Facebook, the arrival of a new actress, Angela Atlang who hails from Botswana.
In a press release, the SABC 2 series said they continue its tradition of introducing young and dynamic talent to their theatrical stable. The show’s announcements on Monday this week revealed that Atlang holds a Bachelor of Theatre Arts from the University of Botswana.
The Botswana born actress plays Itseng Motsamai, James Motsamai’s estranged sister as a beautiful seductive but hard and gritty woman who plies her trade as a strip dancer. Imagine James’s shock and surprise at the discovery. The 26-year-old made her debut in the show on Monday’s Muvhango episode.
According to the release, Atlang has welcomed the challenge of playing the complex character scripted in the show, as she says it will help her development and journey in the performance arts space. “I love challenges” she said as she went through a monologue preparing to shoot one of her latest scenes.
Told that sometimes the fans are not as warm, Atlang said she is not fazed. “I believe that my work ethic will endear me to the viewers. They need to constantly see me grow. I should not stay stagnant and I believe that will endear me to the viewers, ” said Atlang in the release.
She is however nervous as she now joins a stellar group of actresses who have been lauded for both looks and performance. She knows that the challenge is a tough one, but her admission she said, has been an absolute pleasure and a privilege.
“I am excited to work with the incredibly creative and generous cast and crew. It’s all been anything I could’ve imagined. The love is real,” Atlang said, as quoted in the press release.
The actress said she has waited too long to be part of the Muvhango family. According to her, her role will shock a lot of people back home as she’d kept it a closely guarded secret.
Muvhango’s series producer, Herbert Hadebe said over the short space of time Itseng has proved herself more than capable of rising to the occasion. He said introducing new talent in the industry is part of the show’s vision.
