Botswana’s elections have become heavily securitized

It was only a matter of time before the opposition parties, as contenders for power responded in kind to the ever increasing securitization of Botswana’s elections.

Last month I got a call from a ruling party functionary who was attending a regional congress in Lobatse.

“You have to be here to realise that the high number of security agents present here is a clear demonstration that there is something at stake for those in power,” the ruling party guy said.
