Victor Dikgang, 31, from Gububani Ward in Tati Siding, on Wednesday, appeared before the Court Deputy President, Kgosi Kgosimotse Sebele, charged with assault.
Dikgang, a bouncer at the Millennium Bar in Gaborone West Shopping Complex, pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting his colleague after he was told to pay for the beer he was drinking.
State Prosecutor from the Urban Police Station, Constable Terrence Moilwa, told the court that on October 2, 2006, at the Millennium Bar, Dikgang took a 750ml Black Label Beer without having placed an order with the bar tenders but was seen drinking it by one of the bar ladies who asked him to pay for it.
Moilwa said after being asked to pay for the beer, Dikgang exchanged sour words with her and promised to beat her up. After work, Dikgang followed his colleague and assaulted her, slapping her and punching her with fists.
The bar lady reported the assault to the police resulting in Dikgang’s arrest.
Before passing the sentence, Kgosi Sebele told the court that what Dikgang actually did was steal. Sebele said Dikgang was guilty of both theft and assault and sentenced him to five strokes on the bare bottom.
