BURS slaps WUC with another P14 Million garnishee order

The Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) has issued a P14.5 million garnishee order against Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), declaring the state utility an agent of the Smart Prepaid Water Meter contractor and compelling it to divert funds owed to the company directly to the tax authority.

According to the recent garnishee notice dated December 9, 2025, BURS has invoked section 109 of the Income Tax Act and section 40 of the VAT Act to recover outstanding tax liabilities owed by the contractor. The order instructs WUC to immediately pay P14,526,811.77 covering overdue Corporate Income Tax, PAYE, Training Levy, and Value Added Tax.
