A Botswana Defence Force (BDF) aircraft crushed on Thursday night during a night training session at the Thebephatswa Air base, 30 kilometers from Molepolole Village.
The P C-7 trainer aircraft is alleged to have crushed on the Thebephatshwa runway just before landing.
The BDF’s Director of Protocol and Public Affairs, Lieutenant Colonel Mogorosi Batweng, confirmed to The Sunday Standard that, although investigations were still ongoing, one of their aircrafts had suffered such a tragedy during one of the BDF’s night training sessions.
“I can confirm that one of our aircrafts crushed during training yesterday at Mapharangwane Airbase,” he said.
Batweng further stated that they had managed to recover the officer who was involved in the crash.
“We managed to recover the pilot from the accident scene and he was evacuated to hospital.”
While the BDF officer who crushed is currently under intensive care at Marina Hospital, the causes of the aircraft crush are still yet to be known.
Earlier this year there was another fatal accident involving a BDF chopper from Francistown that crushed near Serowe
