“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” Mahatma Gandhi.
On 31st January 2012 a death row inmate by the name of Zibani Thamo was killed by the Government of Botswana ritual style by hanging him like a dog for about 20 minutes until he died. This cruel ritual was carried out by our own brothers employed by the government at the Gaborone maximum prison. They were instructed to perform this ritual by the signature of a death warrant by President Ian Kgama Seretse Kgama.
According to the clemency procedures of the Government, prior to the president signing the death warrant, he sits with at least two people to decide whether or not someone must die. He sits with the Attorney General and Chief Justice. These three sit to discuss the death of a human being. The next important player in this ritual is the registrar of the High Court. He acts as the Court sheriff who supervises the hanging. When people sit around to discuss the death of a fellow human, in our language we say “ ba reera tlhogo ya motho “ . Now when ordinary citizens sit around to discuss the death of a human ( go reera tlhogo ya motho ) we call them witches , Baloi . Their practice is called witchcraft or Satanism. But of course, when apparently important public figures like Presidents , Judges and Attorney Generals , do the same thing , it is given a different name ( clemency hearing ) when it really boils down to the same thing that three people met to discuss killing a fellow human who they have never met or seen with their eyes. They agree that this person they do not know shall die by one of the most cruel and frightening manner- hanging. This mode of killing is purposefully designed to evoke the greatest power that feeds evil forces called FEAR!
It is a ritual killing. Those who participate in this practice derive spiritual strength out of this force of fear generated by the condemned prisoner and subsequently by the society that hears about it.
I must tell you this dear reader that ALL the sociological, philosophical and legal arguments that have sought to justify the death penalty have been proven, with mathematical precision, to be FALSE. Worse now is that there is evidence on the ground , and sitting before the High Court , which shows that even the power of the Government of Botswana , on whose basis the Government kills people , is also fraudulent. I refer here to the constitutional challenge before the Court. On the basis of this evidence, the United Nations and the Africa Union have declared their position with the strongest language that their members do not believe in this hideous practice and shall cease to engage in it.
Botswana is a member of these international organisations. The government continues to kill people in this cruel manner. The government refuses to embrace these human rights values of the international organisations. You must therefore ask yourself dear reader this questions why our government continues this evil practice notwithstanding the circumstances I have mentioned. Ask yourself this question, why would the government be so bent on killing people against all the evidence (international law, sociological facts , and evidence that questions the legitimacy of Government here at home) that speak against the killing of people including the holy books. WHY? I will propose an answer, which is the following.
I believe It takes a heart of a particularly cruel nature for any human being to contemplate: (i) instructing the death of another and (ii) the death of someone who has not offended you personally, and (iii) that such a death be carried out by one of the most cruel ways to kill any animal ÔÇô hanging by the neck , after prolonged waiting for the death in the death row cells. I think it takes a real sick heart, one totally devoid of empathy, to participate in such a deed. But this is what our President, Attorney General, Chief Justice and Registrar of the High Court participate in. The prison warders who carry out the dirty work are severely brutalised by the task. They too must be very sick hearts.
Hearts which promote the phenomenon of life are of God whilst hearts that promote the phenomenon of death are of SATAN ÔÇô a powerful negative evil force. That is why people who engage in the practice of death are called Satanists. Their practices evoke monumental fear that feeds Satan and strengthen them practitioners in whatever enterprise of their choice, mostly political power. It is a historical fact that oppressive Governments have for centuries used the death penalty to instil fear in society which fear of the society has had the direct effect of strengthening the leaders stronghold of power against dissenting voices. Governments that still practice the death penalty do so for this reason. The leaders derive satanic strength out of the fear of the prisoner and fear of society which gives them hope to regain lost political power of enhance already existing power.
Thus, people who use the death of another human being to strengthen themselves in any way are called witches. This is more the case when they do so against all logic and reason, as is the case with the Botswana Government. Take these examples. Why did former president Festus Mogae rush to hang Marriett Botch despite requests by her lawyers to be given time to prepare her clemency appeal and to appeal to the African Commission? Ask yourself dear reader, what was it that Rre Mogae sought to achieve and did achieve? The poor woman Mrs Bostch was locked up under maximum security, so there was nowhere she would run away to and nothing for the justice system to lose by keeping her a little longer whilst she exhausted her remedies. There must surely have been something that pressurised Rre Mogae to kill this woman so fast in this cruel way. What was it?
