In 2018 President Mokgweetsi Masisi came into office with a flourish, he promised that his administration would be “wedded to the rule of law,” introduced his Reset Agenda (in 2021), created a new office in the Ministry for Presidential Affairs for Governance and Public Administration and promised to “combat corruption”.
In spite of these lofty ideals, the various court findings of unlawful conduct by key allies have regularly brought into question the President’s commitment to his own roadmap. The persistent abuses of the law by the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) and other senior civil servants have elicited no comment from the Office of the President let alone resulted in administrative sanction.
