Two former Directorate of Corruption and Economic Crime Director Generals Bruno Paledi and Joseph Mathambo this week appeared before Directorate of Intelligence Services for questioning.
This followed last week’s arrest of former Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) Commissioner General Ken Morris for questioning on a number of missing pistols and other weapons of war said to have entered Botswana following procurement by DIS and Wildlife Department Anti poaching Unit.
Information passed to Sunday Standard shows that former BURS Commissioner General Ken Morris was called to account for some ammunition and pistols which passed through customs and clearing department.
Sunday Standard established this week that some of the officers, who were arrested and detained, were accounting officers during Khama/Isaac Kgosi administration and could be of assistance to the missing weapons.
Fresh information has also emerged that some of the missing weapons which the DIS is looking for are 7.62 X51 mm Gallil weapons and Fabrique Nationale and some sniper rifles which are designed for assassinations and special missions I.e 9x19mm pistols 7.62×39 mm for AK47.
Sources further revealed that the BURS Commissioner General was aware or is in possession of information of some FN weapons used by military personnel which was diverted after entering despite an end user certificate specifying that the equipment would be used by the country’s security services.
Sources reveal that some of the weapons were found at Seleka Springs (Ptd) Ltd a company owned by the Khama family.
Information provided by Zebra Shipping Directors who were also arrested and integrated by DIS as part of an investigation into the missing arms of war is reported to have implicated the former BURS Commissioner General.
According to information passed to Sunday Standard, some of the accused persons who were arrested and raided by DIS were found in possession of military ammunition which are not for ordinary personnel.
