Economic cost of violence on Botswana amounts to P86 billion

While Botswana continues to rank as Africa’s second-most peaceful country, outperforming some G8 countries such as France, the 2023 Global Peace Index, which measures world peace, places the economic cost of violence in Botswana at $6,602,004,264 (P86.2 billion).

The report which evaluated 163 countries, representing 99.7% of the world’s population, also put the global economic impact of violence at $17.5-trillion – equal to nearly 13 percent of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP).
